This article is the outcome of research planned as a part of a larger study that focuses on doctoral dissertations in the field of architecture/
architectural design completed in the last 20 years (1995-2014). The aim of the research was expressed as “to provide a panorama of the
state of doctoral research in the field of architecture/architectural design at the beginning of the 21st century,” and the auxiliary research
out of which the present article was produced was designed to investigate this issue “in the eyes of ” the academy. The research involves faceto-
face interviews with faculty members selected out of universities those have an active doctoral program in architecture/architectural
design and completed at least one doctoral research study in the last 20 years and a follow up set of analytical investigations turned into a
report. Summarizing “academia’s view,” the present article interprets the findings and opens them into discussion.
