Determination of Nurses‘ Views of Their Responsibilities and Nursing Students in Clinical Practice

In the clinical education of nursing, it is very important for nurses working in the clinic to support education as well as teaching staff. The purpose of this study is to determine the nurses’ responsibilities in clinical practice education and their views on the student nurses they work with. The universe of this descriptive and cross-sectional study consisted of 494 nurses working in internal and surgical clinics, adult intensive care and emergency departments of a university and a public hospital in Zonguldak, and a sample of 350 nurses. Research data were collected between 15 February and 31 May 2019 with a Questionnaire Form created by researchers using the literature. Descriptive statistical methods were used to evaluate the data. The average age of the nurses participating in the study was 33.07 ± 7.37, and 68.3% were undergraduate graduates. 87.1% of nurses, nurses should guide students, about more than about three quarters (77.5%) feel that they are responsible for the education of students, but the number of students (68.3%) and high workload (55.7%) He stated that they could not spare enough time for students due to such reasons. While 45.4% of the nurses stated that working with student nurses increased job satisfaction, 40.1% of the time allocated to the patient, and the quality of patient care; More than half stated that they found the theoretical and skill education (62.6%) given to the students inadequate. In the study, it was determined by the nurses that they pay attention to the physical appearance of the students (form layout, self-care practices) (56.5%) and follow the hospital/service rules (48.0%). Nurses should be ensured to plan the clinical education improvement process in cooperation with the lecturers in clinical practices and to take more active responsibility in student education.
