Evaluation of Postgraduate Education for the Teachers ‘Career Development

The aim of this study was to determine the problems that teachers experience during the postgraduate education process, suggestions for solutions to these problems and to determine their views on career development based on postgraduate education. In the study, embedded single-case design and case study, which is one of the qualitative research methodologies, were used in this study. Thirty-two teachers constitute the working group of the research. The data related to the research were obtained through a semi-structured interview form, where the validity and reliability studies were carried out with the pilot application. In the analysis of the data obtained from the research, değercontent analysis was used. According to the results of the research, it has been determined that teachers prefer postgraduate education for personal and professional development, academic career and learning research skills. It was determined that postgraduate education meets the expectations of teachers in subjects such as scientific research, personal development, scientific literacy and specialization in the field. They had problems on the different days of the lessons, not having enough time, difficulties in transportation, getting permission and participating in scientific congresses; within the structure of the Ministry of National Education, it has been determined that postgraduate education has limited economic contributions to the teacher for career development and that postgraduate education does not see sufficient value. As a solution suggestion for the problems encountered, it was stated in the relevant legislation that a language that supports the personal development of teachers should be encouraged and supported by scientific studies in order to contribute to the personal and professional development of teachers. In addition, suggestions were developed by participant teachers, such as granting monthly leave during the thesis preparation periods, sending teachers abroad for research for a certain period of time, and prioritizing those who have graduated from the school, district, provincial directorate and other senior management positions. In line with the results obtained in the research, suggestions such as updating legislation related to postgraduate education in favor of the professional development of teachers, providing some incentives to expand teachers ‘postgraduate education, establishing performance and career system for improving teachers’ professional competencies were presented.
